(laughter) is the hispanic vote still in play? >> not really. i just say the latest poll from latino decisions and 73% of latinos tend to be-- they said they'll be voting for president barack obama. about 21% for mitt romney. said the way that we get a voting platform that would transform america is for latinos and blacks and poor white people to get together. i would add women to that. we have a number of women this year that hopefully they will be voting for what they want. we cannot get all of what we want unless we help someone else get what they want, and that leads to our working together, starting to strategize for 2016, when we made want somebody else to be president forced to change those people in the senate. usually, we'd wait until the last minute then come together. we need to get away from that. the dream that act does not hurt me. i want my brothers and sisters to have the dream act, but also to understand, i want as a woman, as an african-american. i want an african-american woman on the supreme court. we will then get to where we want to go. >> you mentioned -- latin decisions and a poll that came up with, which showed that he knows our elderly -- overwhelmingly fund of the president and not fond of the other party. it is not that one party is so great over the other. it really is that
the widest gap. it is something we are being attentive to. african-american, latino, native american and samoan. and while the district overall trend was 10% growth, what you notice over a five-year trend is african-american growth has bested the district average of 13% improvement, latino at 10% equal to the district's growth, native american at 14%, and samoan at 11%. the next slide is similar, but in the content area of mathematics on the state test. again, 8.2% district overall growth trend, african-american comparison 13% growth over five years, latino 10%, native american 7, and samoan 11%. >> superintendent, i'm just wondering if there is anyway maybe later on to get the numbers of where the anglo and asian-american students are. >> okay. so, maybe in this next slide, we get to that point. so, this next slide is actually on the english language arts achievement gap. so, what's highlighted in this one are two line graphs, one for african-american/latino, and the top line graph actually represents the district average. and what i want to point out is, again, a different way to r

citywide. r log on -- our largest population is african-american and latino students from the bayview hunters point and mission district's. we work collectively with the school district. they worked really well on site at the office. when students are brought in, but as far as day-to-day operations, we all work with each other, even though we are three separate entities. we are getting attendance records. the school district is part of the counseling conferences we are having, so we all work together to support these young people speaking to the achievement gap issue and really speaking more to the schools and hoping they will no longer be truant. i want to mention young people are reporting a number of reasons why they are not going to school. there are number of factors. some young people expressed they could not travel from one part of the city to another. many of our young people who come through our doors are already behind significantly at least one semester, so they need the opportunities to recover that credit, and they do not know how to do that, which leads them to disengage
